Over the past 25 weeks, we have analyzed the plays and playwrights that populate the world of classic theatre. This week we’ll examine the art of analysis in journalism and the craft of theatre critque.
We are thrilled to welcome celebrated Pittsburgh theatre critic and Sharon Eberson to share with us stories from her 40-year career at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and passion for the arts in Pittsburgh

Sharon Eberson’s  40 years at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette began when she arrived from NYC, at age 22, as the first female sports writer at a Pittsburgh newspaper. She was a reporter, editor and designer in sports before becoming the newspaper’s Sunday Magazine editor and then Arts & Entertainment editor. When the Internet came along, she continued to write while facilitating online projects. For the past eight years, she has been the PG’s main theater critic, as well as an arts and pop culture reporter and editor. She won a 2020 Golden Quill Award (Western PA and nearby counties in Ohio and West Virginia) for her interactive presentation “I am the blues,” about August Wilson and his relationship to the blues. In 2019, she took second place in the new category “Diversity” for the statewide Keystone Awards, for stories about the arts.
